Fifty square metres, and nobody else in it

The pool is 50 m² and belongs to the house. Villa Bucks is let as a whole property to a single group, so the pool is yours for the week — no other guests, no towels on loungers at seven in the morning, no shared hours.

Around it there is a 50 m² terrace with an outdoor dining area, sun loungers, an outdoor shower, and a garden running to 1200 m² beyond that.

What heating is actually for

A heated pool is not a luxury in July. It is the thing that makes April, May and October work. Istria warms up early in the air and late in the water, and every shoulder-season villa holiday turns on whether the pool is usable.

Heating is charged at Pool heating €20 per day, only for the days you request it. That is deliberate — you are not paying for July heating you did not need.

A guest put it more plainly than we would

A German review from an early-April stay says the pool was still rather cool, “mit der Poolheizung konnte man es aber doch eine gewisse Zeit aushalten” — with the pool heating it was bearable for a decent while. Then adds that there was the whirlpool as well.

That is an honest description of early April in Istria, and a fair account of what the heating buys you: a shoulder-season week where the water gets used.

And when the weather turns anyway

There is a sauna and a hot tub for the evenings and the days that do not cooperate, plus a gym, a games room with a pool table and table tennis, and a wood-burning stove in the dining hall.

Every bedroom has air conditioning for the opposite problem in August.

Questions about the pool

How big is the pool?

50 m², private to the house, with a 50 m² terrace beside it. It is not shared with other guests, because the whole property is let to one group.

What does the heating cost?

€20 per day. It is optional and charged only for the days you ask for it, so a July booking generally skips it and an April booking generally does not.

When is heating actually worth paying for?

April, May and October, and some years late March. Istrian air is warm well before Istrian water is, and an unheated pool in April is a pool nobody uses.

Is the hot tub the same thing as the pool?

No — they are separate. There is the heated pool outdoors, a hot tub, and a sauna. The bathtub and the whirlpool are also separate fittings.

Are pool towels provided?

Yes. Pool towels are supplied alongside the bed linen and bathroom towels, all included in the rate. There is an outdoor shower by the pool.
